Stargazing @ STC

It's Stargazing Night @ STC! Tonight, our girls had the exciting opportunity to welcome the Astronomy Club of Victoria Junior College, and explore our Singapore night skies with some high-powered telescopes.

To kick off the evening, the girls were first given background knowledge on our galaxy, planets and stars. Putting into perspective, they learnt that the universe is an immense place and that our Earth is a mere speck in the grand scheme of things. Intrigued by all these galactic knowledge and fascinating names, the girls were eager to start the actual stargazing.

The girls proceeded to the netball court, where several telescopes were set up. Despite the cloudy night sky, the girls were still able to view prominent points like Jupiter and Orion's belt.

Being unaccustomed to stargazing, some girls initially found it challenging to spot Jupiter and other celestial objects.

But they quickly got the hang of it and were soon becoming pros at using the telescopes.

All in all, the girls had a meaningful time learning about the universe, and enjoyed the hands-on session with the telescopes. Hopefully, some of our girls will be inspired to become future astronomers... or at least appreciate going for stargazing trips. Big thanks go out to VJC's Astronomy Club for facilitating this session! :)
