We may not be kings or queens, but this morning we had the opportunity to build our very own castles and forts made out of sand! It was perfect day at the beach, and our girls were ready for a day of team-building and fun!
The facilitators set very very high standards for our girls, showing us a 'model sandcastle' which we could aspire to follow. With this challenge in mind, our girls embarked on learning the necessary skills and techniques in castle-making.
We start with a simple, formless mound of sand, and begin planning our 'battle strategy' and design.
An essential ingredient is adding water to sand, and our tireless 'water girls' shuttled to-and-fro to bring fresh supply of sea water.
Let's get to work! Flurry of activity as the girls unleashed their creative energies.
The first fort is laid! The girls soon realized that making sand structures were far from simple and required a strong but delicate touch.
All hands on board! The girls divided the tasks, with each girl specializing in their own niche areas of sand techniques.
With their sandcastle completed, this group proudly put on the finishing touch... filling the moat with a fresh supply of seawater. If this were a real castle, it would indeed a formidable fortress!
Exhausted from all the labour and drained from the sun, the girls nevertheless proudly posed with their masterpieces :)
At the end of the day, our girls learnt that it takes equal parts of careful planning, creative thinking and hardwork to reach success. Equally important, team work was an essential component to achieving their shared goals. Indeed, when the going got tough and the sun became unbearable, it was the friends next to you that encouraged and spurred you on.
